Jeff & Joanne's trip to Cancun MEXICO

January 2006

GULF OF MEXICO & MAYAN RIVIERIA

Jeff & Joanne snorkeled here - and came across some curious barracuda!!

Jeff and Joanne flew into Cancun just 2 months after the nasty hurricane swept through. Many hotels and buildings were still in ruins after the big storm.

It was very strange to see the damage in person rather than just on the news.

They went to Isla Mujares on the first day, to get out of the city
and into the more rustic spots of the Cancun area. Other areas they visited were Tulum, and Playa del Carmen. The road in Tulum turned into wind-swept sand from the hurricane, and then actually ended in just a pile of sand un-passable by vehicle. There were tractor-diggers everywhere working to remove huge mountains of sand from areas the sand had blown to in the storm.

Joanne went diving at Coco Bay, just off of Playa del Carmen.
Jeff stayed on safe 'ground' in the boat. :)

Joanne saw an eel, hundreds of fish, lots of coral, and had a very rewarding experience overall. The dive instructor was licensed and very knowledgeable, and there were only 2 students for the lesson & dive so it was relaxed and fun.

But Jeff did go snorkeling......and fed the clown fish until the barracudas became too interested in what was being offered!
Time to bee-line it to the beach!
